VVDI Key Tool Max vs Autel KM100 Key via Dump

My take: Between the Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Max and the Autel KM100, I’d pick the VVDI for immobilizer work.

The reason is simple: VVDI can handle key by Dump, while the KM100 can’t. That single feature opens up jobs that aren’t possible with basic OBD key programming.

 

Who It’s For

I’d recommend Key Tool Max if you regularly deal with lost-key situations, EEPROM work, or immobilizer repairs.

If most of your jobs are just adding spare keys over OBD, the KM100 is easier to learn and may be all you need.

 

Real Workshop Experience

To see how it performs with Mini Prog, I loaded the original dump into Key Tool Max and checked that the software correctly identified the PIN and the existing keys. After selecting the target transponder, I wrote the dump, confirmed the operation, and let the tool complete its verification.

 

The job itself went smoothly. I was able to restore the original key and program two additional transponders without any surprises.

 

What this really showed me wasn’t that VVDI has a Write button—every programmer does. It showed why the Key by Dump function makes a difference when you’re dealing with immobilizer repairs instead of routine key additions.

Strengths vs. Limitations

What I Like

• Key by Dump is the biggest advantage over the KM100.
• I can verify the PIN and existing keys before programming.
• The write-and-verify process is straightforward once the correct dump is loaded.
• At roughly the same price, it gives me access to jobs the KM100 simply can’t do.

 

What I Don’t Like

• It’s definitely not a beginner’s tool.
• Success depends on having the correct dump and understanding EEPROM data.
• If you don’t know what you’re looking at, the extra functions won’t help much.

 

Where I Stand on This

After using both types of tools, I don’t think this comes down to price—they’re close enough.

 

Price-wise, I don’t see much difference between the KM100 and the VVDI Key Tool Max—both are around the €400 mark. The Key Tool Max Pro costs a little more, but that’s not really the comparison I’m making here. For me, the deciding factor is still the Key by Dump capability, not the price.

 

It comes down to the kind of work you actually do. If you’re only programming keys through OBD, I’d probably keep things simple. But if EEPROM and immobilizer jobs are part of your daily workflow, I’d reach for the VVDI every time.

 

One thing I do agree with completely: owning the tool isn’t the same as knowing how to use it. The hardware is only half of the job; experience is what makes the difference.

Step 1 – Prepare and Generate the New Remote

1. Insert the new XSKFF0EN key into the slot of the Key Tool Max PRO.
2. On the tool, go to:
   Remote Program → Nissan → NAVARA → NAVARA (2019–2021) ID46 433 → Generate
   This configures the remote to the correct frequency (433.93MHz FSK) and transponder type (ID46 proximity smart key).

Step 2 – Read the BCM Code

1. Navigate to:
   Immo Programming → Nissan → Select from System → Smart → 4-digit PIN → Type 5 (no slot-button type).
2. Select Read BCM Code and turn the ignition ON when prompted.
3. Choose Yes to calculate PIN codes online.
   The tool will display the BCM code and passwords—make sure to note them down.

Step 3 – Program the New Smart Key

1. Stay in the same menu and choose Program Smart Key.
2. Remove all keys from the vehicle and press the START button once. The security light will flash twice.
3. Confirm Yes to automatically release the steering lock and begin the matching process.

Step 4 – Key Matching Procedure

Follow these simple on-screen steps:

1. Hold the back of the new smart key against the START button, then press START. Wait until the immobilizer light goes off, then turn the ignition OFF.

4. If the steering lock remains engaged, press the START button again to reset it.

 

Step 5–Verification

1. Start the car with the new key. If it doesn’t start immediately, hold the key near the induction coil and retry until you hear a beep.
2. Test both original and new keys by:

• Opening and closing the door once.
• Pressing the remote lock/unlock buttons.
• Starting the engine and letting it run for 5 seconds.

3. Once all keys work normally, the programming is complete.

Xhorse Key Tool Max Pro Clone Volvo ID48 Transponder

 Will Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Max Pro clone Volvo ID48 Transponder?

Here is the clue:

Make sure you have the ID48 cloning function activation. You have to buy and generate 10 remotes to activate ID48 license.

You can clone aftermarket ID48 Volvo chip but you can’t clone and write to original volvo key.

Id48 is just like cloning a VW it should work no problem.

Requires 100 points or 1 token for ID48 cloning.

 

Even if you had the id48 clone activated you cannot write to the original id48 chip in the Volvo key. You need to program it with VIDA. Costs $217 in subscriptions to program that key assuming they have the box the key came in with the remote code.

Even if you copy id48, remote is a no go unless reading data from cem and mirror or original with code and coding with vida online.
