Step 1: Entry & Blade Decoding

1. We started by gaining access to the vehicle using a lock pick. Once inside, we decoded the door lock to get the mechanical cut code.
2. Decode result: Positions 1, 2, 3, 5.
3. This code was sent to cut a new blade using the Xhorse Key Cutting Machine. Having a physical blade ready early speeds up the whole job.

Step 2: Removing the EIS (Ignition Switch)

With the door open, we targeted the EIS. Using a dedicated EIS removal tool, we accessed it through the dash tray – the easiest route on this model.

 Question:

I need to buy VVDI MB Tool, so I’m seeing if it’s worth buying the VVDI Key tool Plus tablet. Are the vvdi-mb functions all available in the tablet, or is tablet a “lite” version?

Here is the clue.

There are some small differences between them bit not big.
The biggest difference is user-level.
If you just want to make keys fast as possible, keytool plus does everything for you. More expert vvdi MB. You can manually select the steps you want to do.
Keytool plus is easy, but if you have a job that requires just part of the info for a other job then keys, its a no go.
Depends on the user experience level. Kinda Android vs iPhone story.

If you mostly need to diagnose EIS/ESL issues rather then key jobs, then save money and buy VVDI MB and testing cables, gateway, ESL emulators for bench testing and a few keys.

 Tutorial: Program Benz W169 All Keys Lost with Xhorse VVDI Prog and VVDI MB Tool without MB token.

1. Read EZS data with vvdi prog
Read EZS data with vvdiprog and Benz w211/W169 EZS/EIS solder free adapter
Save data

2. Prepare key file
Connect VVDI MB with laptop
Run VVDI MB Software
Select Prepare Key File and Load EIS File
Load EIS data read by vvdi prog.

Select key position and V051 type, then prepare key file
Calculate success.
Save key file.

3. Write key with VVDI MB
Select Read/Write Key Function
Load Key File.

VVDI MB Program Mercedes Vito (W639) All Keys Lost on Bench

 Here we share user working experience on 2011 Mercedes Vito (W639) All Keys Lost using xhorse vvdi mb tool and power adapter on bench.

 

‘I spent over 2 hours trying to perform data acquisition for all keys lost on a 2011 Mercedes Vito (W639) on bench.

Below is the diagram I followed (which is correct) I used VVDI MB power adapter, but no matter what I did the data acquisition would fail @ 80%ish, every time I would retry it would go a little bit past 80% or a little bit below 80%. After speaking to a few skilled locksmiths I confirmed I was doing everything correctly.

I then noticed that the lens part of the EIS (the IR sensor) was really grubby and had a lot of dirt/grime on it. I cleaned it using isopropyl alcohol and some kitchen towel (there is a photo of the dirt that came off the lens) then the data acquisition worked straight away, it also worked very quickly in comparison to the previous attempts. I don’t know if anyone has had this issue before but I will be cleaning all the EIS IR lenses from here on out. Hope it helps.’

Will VVDI Prog Read Mercedes W164 Amazona EIS?

 Problem:

In repairing Mercedes Benz W164 EIS I found that there are two different boards from 2006-2008. Two different boards between 2006-2008 (see images).

I can extract eeprom and flash using Xhorse VVDI Prog from the ST12 08/S switch. However, the 01/S is not listed with VVDI Prog. Does anyone know if you can get the eeprom from this board? Is there way to to get password from ezs via IR AKL? which tool?

Solution:

That’s the Famous Amazona EIS. The Amazona EIS is not listed in VVDI Prog. You won’t be able to use VVDI Prog to pull eeprom data from the Amazonas EIS.

VVDIprog can do Motorola MCU, not Nec processor.

Only VVDI MB Tool.

W164 has 2 types, Motorolla based and NEC based. The very early W164 models have motorola which you can read by external programmer like vvdi, smok, rosfar etc. Then there is EIS with NEC procesor not motorola, cannot be read with those programmers.

Only motorolla bassed eis can be decoded. nec based eis has locked/ unreadable processor with city name mask i.e. amazonas, sydney etc. best solution for this is to replace eis and make ecu virgin then personalize and activate ecu with new ( used) eis installed.

vvdi mb can now find akl password.

Here is some more info with part numbers:

1st version of these old W164 EZS with the 2 plugs far apart 2005 -> 2006 had Motorola MCU inside. These have part numbers: 164 545 05 08 and 164 545 07 08

Then from 2007 -> 2009 these old W164 EZS with the 2 plugs far apart have an NEC MCU inside. These have part numbers: 164 545 09 08, 164 545 10 08, 164 545 11 08, 164 545 13 08

From 2009+ These W164 used a smaller EZS with the 2 plugs close together, these EZS are supported by most tools for AKL and have part numbers: 164 545 15 08, 164 545 16 08, 164 905 xx xx
